A space where taste meets sound

VRIJMOED Ketelaarstraat 7

Rotterdam series Sounding Here and Eat Your Feelings will meet under one roof for an exciting exchange in three acts between artists and audience. As a playful encounter between sound and the senses, this crossover between disciplines is an invite to meet two musical artists through the interaction of sounds and the palpable medium of food.

Sounding Here continues to bring together artists who are in the process of research. Now in this series of 3 events the notion of sound and its multiple dimensions is expanded into taste withย Eat Your Feelings. Together weย create a bridge between the senses and turn musicalย perspectives into snacks that are imagined, packaged and served in playful ways, inviting theย audience to further connect and also immerse themselves in the performance.ย

Put violist and composer Yanna Pelser in a box at your own behest. You wonโ€™t see many artists switch between classical, pop and improvised music so effortlessly โ€“ not to mention with such originality. Solo projects like ALBERTINE reveal her affinity for songwriting, melody and impulsive experimentation. Pelserโ€™s โ€˜Singing Violistโ€™-project finds her singing in invented languages and stretching the sonic parameters of her chosen instrument beyond traditions.

Pelserโ€™s resume outside of her super distinct solo works speaks for itself: orchestras, jazz ensembles and renowned pop stars alike have all made good use of her talents. Among those are North Sea String Quartet, Metropole Orkest, Het Muziek (former Asko|Schรถnberg ensemble), Ambrose Akinmusire, Karsu, Duncan Laurence, Samora Pinderhughes, Brainteaser Orchestra and Lilian Vieira.

vixnde*, pronounced viande, meaning โ€œmeatโ€ in French, is the product of a lifetime by Brussels-born singer-songwriter Viana Afoumou. Her genre? Raw pop.

*vixnde [vjษ‘ฬƒd]: A neologism and analogy which became the official name of her โ€œbrandโ€ for the following reasons:ย

  1. A girl in her primary school figured out one day that her name (Viana) sounds similar to the wordย viande, which became her nickname for the rest of the school year.
  2. Years later, the joke ironically reflects how she tends to feel: like a steak in one of the storefronts of the slaughterhouse in theย Marchรฉ du Midiย in Brussels, surrounded by different displays, other pieces of meat and the sellers who try to outshout each other.ย
  3. She tried to useย viandeย as an artist name, but unfortunately the Instagram handle was already in use. She replaced theย aย with anย xย and it worked, incidentally defining her artistic identity through social media.

โ€œSuddenly, I was surrounded by horses. I sat by the water to refresh my feet, then I laid down and I closed my eyes. After a few minutes, one of them came by and sniffed my nose. I was a bit scared but I stayed still. The horse was whispering a song."
